Alicia Bauskis is the Manager of Policy and Community on the Office of Population Health Genomics in the Western Australia (WA) Department of Health. In her role at the department, Alicia has helped implement the WA Rare Diseases Strategic Framework 2015-18, which aims to see people living with rare diseases in WA experience the best possible health and wellbeing. She has engaged widely with people living with rare diseases as part of this process and key implementation projects have focussed on developing insights into (i) the care coordination needs of people living with rare diseases, (ii) the journeys undertaken by parents/caregivers of children who are part in the Undiagnosed Diseases Program in WA; and (iii) the experiences of Aboriginal Australians who have been patients with Genetic Services.
With qualifications in economics and political science Alicia has previously worked in a research capacity in university settings to evaluate the delivery of social services including undertaking cost effective analysis. Through her previous and current work, Alicia has developed an understanding of the challenging journeys people undertake; their agency and resilience in the face of these situations and various opportunities for service improvement including the provision of more integrated care.
