Dr. William (Bill) L. STANFORD, PhD, is trained as a chemist (Duke) and as an Immunologist (UNC at Chapel Hill). Currently, Dr. Stanford is a Senior Scientist at the Ottawa Hospital, a Full Professor at the University of Ottawa, Investigator in the Ottawa Institute of Systems Biology, Scientific Director of the Ottawa Human Pluripotent Stem Cell Facility, and Canada Research Chair in Integrative Stem Cell Biology. Dr. Stanford’s interdisciplinary research uses a combination of unbiased systems and reductionist methodologies to dissect the molecular control of cell fate decisions in the context of human development, aging, and disease including cancer, with a focus on human somatic and pluripotent stem cells. Dr. Stanford uses induced pluripotent stem cells (iPSCs) and genome editing of embryonic stem cells (ESCs) to study the rare premature aging disease Hutchinson-Gilford Progeria Syndrome, Tuberous Sclerosis Complex and its related lung disease Lymphangioleiomyomatosis (LAM). Dr. Stanford has published more than 100 manuscripts, which have been cited nearly 10,000 times.
