Lakshminarayan Ranganath

Professor Lakshminarayan Ranganath is a busy clinician working in the Department of Clinical Biochemistry and Metabolic Medicine, Royal Liverpool University Hospital. He obtained a research degree (PhD) from the University of Surrey and was the first to show deficiency of incretin (GLP-1) in obesity, maintaining a continuing interest and continuing to make a contribution to this area. He became interested in Alkaptonuria serendipitously in 2003 and in close collaboration with a number of like-minded colleagues, is continuing to advance the clinical care and research into Alkaptonuria. He is the Clinical Director of the National Alkaptonuria Centre based in Liverpool allowing nitisinone to used in treating patients in the centre. He is also the co-ordinator and Chief Investigator for the EC-funded project DevelopAKUre. He has supported a number of Research degrees in his department.
